Assistant Director General Learning and Development 

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking a highly motivated, outcome driven senior executive to fill the newly created position of Assistant Director-General People, Learning and Development, based in Canberra ACT.

The position will report directly to the First Assistant Director-General (FADG) Corporate, and will be responsible for shaping and running the newly established People, Learning and Development branch.   The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to deliver organisational outcomes across human resources, learning and development, workplace health and safety, people policy, and stakeholder management.

Aligned to ASD’s new position as a statutory authority, the role is responsible for the development and delivery of key strategies to underpin an effective, safe and resilient organisation including strategic workforce planning, recruitment and retention, leadership and tradecraft capability development, wellbeing and safety, and diversity and inclusion. The role makes a critical contribution to ASD’s ability to recruit, develop and retain a workforce with relevant capacity and capability to deliver against ASD’s mission objectives and commitment to Government, and build ASD’s employment brand in the marketplace.  This role provides the opportunity to offer a fresh perspective to current practices in a positive and constructive way in pursuit of strategic alignment, cultural transformation and continuous improvement.

Working in a shared services environment, this role leads a team delivering strategic and operational outcomes through both corporate-focused activities and on-the-ground engagement and support to managers and staff. The role is responsible for ensuring appropriate compliance with ASD’s legislative employment framework, people policy and processes, and providing advice, reporting and analysis to a range of internal and external users to assist the achievement of ASD and unit resource plans.  This role will also be responsible for developing and sustaining effective and collaborative relationships with management across ASD and external stakeholders such as Department of Defence, Australian Public Service Commission, and other Government entities.  Experience working within the National Intelligence Community is not required.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for engagement, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the highest level and must be able to be cleared to Top Secret Positive Vetting.
