Director of Development (Faculty of Medicine and Health)

About the opportunity 

The University of Sydney has an outstanding reputation for education and research in the medicine and health disciplines. Led by an Executive Dean, the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) combines the faculties of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, and Pharmacy, and focuses on enabling innovation, excellence and strategic vision in teaching, research, clinical practice and healthcare delivery.

The Director of Development (Faculty of Medicine and Health) is responsible for implementing the University’s development strategies within the FMH and will contribute in a senior capacity to the growth of the University’s fundraising program in this space. The incumbent will take a leadership role in fundraising within the Faculty and will use their skills and experience to close gifts of $10+ million, and attain significant personal fundraising targets.

The Director of Development (Faculty of Medicine and Health) will also grow and develop a team of high performing fundraising staff who will work collaboratively with the wider Development Office. Working closely with academic leadership, this position is also charged with growing a culture of philanthropy in the Faculty to increase awareness of and engagement with the fundraising process.

  • demonstrated success in closing $10 million and above gifts and meeting stretch financial targets
  • proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor, inspire and motivate a large group of ambitious and goal-oriented professionals (8 direct reports)
  • experience in advising and liaising with senior executives at the Vice-Chancellor and Dean level
  • ability to think strategically and provide robust, tactical advice on fundraising strategy
  • current knowledge of best practices in development, in particular in medicine & health
  • international fundraising experience
  • demonstrated success in establishing, cultivating and maintaining high-level, strong relationships with influential donors
  • tertiary qualifications.
