The Tasmanian Government has announced the appointment of Gain Austin as the new CEO of the Tasmanian Health Organisation (THO-NW).

Mr Austin, who has been serving as Acting CEO, was appointed following what State Health Minister Michelle O’Byrne described as a ‘rigorous recruitment process’.

"This is an important role so I am very pleased that we have appointed the best person for the job from a very strong field of candidates," Ms O'Byrne said.

"Gavin has extensive leadership experience in health over many years and provides a very safe pair of hands.

"He also has a proven track record of leadership for the THO-North West since February 2011 including through the transition process from the former Area Health Service.

"This period has been one of great change and challenge for the health service in the North West and Gavin has provided first-rate direction and focus for staff."

Formerly the THO-North West Director of Finance, Mr Austin has many years of experience as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer for various public and private health organisations in Australia and New Zealand.
