The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS) builds sophisticated quantum machines to harness the quantum world for practical applications. We are solving the most challenging research problems at the interface of basic quantum physics and engineering, work with partners in industry to translate these research discoveries into practical applications and devices, and are developing quantum technologies for the future health, economy, environment and security of Australian society. Our capacity building programs are training a new generation of scientists in cutting-edge fundamental research, innovation, and entrepreneurialism, critical skills in Australia’s high-tech sector. 

EQUS is hosted by the School of Mathematics and Physics within the Faculty of Science at the University of Queensland. Research is carried out at the cutting edge across a broad spectrum of areas in Mathematics and Physics.

About This Opportunity

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS), administered by The University of Queensland, is seeking an outstanding Deputy Director, Operations and Strategy to lead the Centre’s national operations, and to be responsible for high-level strategic, operational and performance planning to enable the Centre to achieve impact across its research goals, objectives and translation programs

The Deputy Director will manage a focused team (based at UQ) with responsibility for the smooth administrative operations of the Centre (including administration, operations, business management, communications and engagement functions), and provide virtual leadership to local node administrators at UQ, Australian National University, The University of Sydney, The University of Western Australia, and Macquarie University. The Deputy Director will work closely with the Centre’s national executive team, and liaise with Centre node leaders, chief investigators, associate investigators, research fellows, postgraduate students, partners, and other stakeholders.

Our Ideal Candidate

Applicants will possess postgraduate qualifications or equivalent education or training in a relevant discipline, along with extensive leadership experience and experience managing a research centre.

You should have demonstrated ability to lead high performing teams across multiple stakeholders and locations, extensive experience in operations/resource management, along with the ability to provide effective corporate governance for a national entity.

This is a full-time, fixed term position until 31 December 2024 on a Senior Professional Contract (HEW 10A).

A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate including 17% superannuation.
