The Role

The EL1 Signals Intelligence Manager in ASD’s Regional Intelligence (RI) undertakes a combination of the following:

  • Develops knowledge or expertise of geopolitical issues, regional cultures, and or information and communications technology trends.
  • Uses expertise to provide strategic guidance on, manage, plan and prioritise team’s research, analysis, transcription and translation of collected data to produce signals intelligence tailored to customer requirements.
  • Uses relevant expertise to write briefs and advice for senior customers
  • Strategically plans, supports and contributes to the development of ASD’s analyst workforce
  • Edits foreign signals intelligence products and briefs
  • Provides advice and guidance on prioritisation of collection optimisation and capability development efforts.
  • Develops and implements innovative business processes to sustain team outputs or develop organisational capability amidst emerging or unforeseen operational challenges
  • Identifies and leverages organisational linkages and efficiencies to sustain outputs or develop organisational capability amidst emerging or unforeseen operational challenges.

About our Team

ASD is a vital member of Australia’s national security community. We work across the full spectrum of operations required of contemporary signals intelligence and security agencies. This includes intelligence, cyber security and offensive cyber operations in support of the Australian Government and Australian Defence Force (ADF).

RI is a multi-disciplinary workforce that conducts in-depth, complex research and analysis of foreign signals intelligence, technical data, and a wide range of policy issues. Successful candidates will receive specialised on-the-job training, access to relevant industry-related courses to develop your skills and help you build people networks across the National Intelligence Community.

Provide high-quality advice to ASD senior leadership and across the National Intelligence Community.

Assessment Criteria

  • Applicants are required to provide a response addressing the following:
  • Explain why you would make a good EL1 Signals Intelligence Manager.
  • Your response should be no more than 600 words.

Please ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements:

Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with ASD, applicants must be an Australian citizen. 

Health Assessment - 
The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the Agency’s preferred medical provider. 

Organisational Suitability Assessment 
– To be eligible for employment within ASD, the preferred applicant will be required to undergo an Organisational Assessment (see Organisational Suitability Assessment section in this Information Pack).

Security Clearance 
- The preferred applicant will be required to successfully undergo the security clearance vetting process at a specified clearance level. The preferred applicant MUST be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
