About the role

The Director Construction & Earth Resources will be responsible for planning within the strategic framework and providing high level strategic and specialist technical advice as part of the Health and Safety Field Operations Leadership Team while demonstrating highly specialised management skills. The role is pivotal in ensuring technical services are provided to support WorkSafe’s statutory and regulatory functions especially with the areas of Major Construction Projects, Earth Resources, Construction Programs and Construction. This role works collaboratively across the Health & Safety Business Unit (HSBU) with the aim of reducing injury, illness and fatalities in Victorian workplaces. Additionally you will:

  • Lead and manage the delivery of both the Construction Program including Major Construction Projects and Earth Resources Program across the business.
  • Lead multiple field based teams of inspectors, who regulate workplaces such as Construction sites, Mines, Quarries & workplaces that are exposed to engineered stone (Silica).
  • Oversee the assessment of Industry incident data, claims trends, program and service outcomes to develop and implement service improvement strategies and provide input into business plans
  • Provide high level technical and policy advice to the Commander of Field Operations and the Executive Director, Health & Safety on complex and sensitive matters within the industry
  • Establish, monitor and revise programs for the effective and efficient regulation of safety in the industry to address contemporary and emerging workplace risk
  • Finally, you will develop and maintain effective relationships with key decision makers and stakeholders including frequently monitoring management, political and environmental changes within the sectors to promote enhanced control of workplace risk and to preserve and enhance WorkSafe’s position

About you

  • You have Leadership experience and demonstrated skills in managing business planning, analysis and reporting processes, building capability of teams and organisations and managing diverse teams of technical professionals
  • You must have appropriate relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive experience working in a regulated industry
  • You also have well developed technical expertise in a relevant area and a demonstrated ability to translate technical knowledge into targeted action plans
  • You have strong critical thinking, risk assessment and managing high risk situations
  • Finally, you have experience in decision making within a framework of statutory duty, including the determination of compliance demonstration
