Chief Executive Officer

 

Yilli Housing has been delivering housing, accommodation and services that enhance the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities for more than 20 years.  Our vision is of thriving and empowered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. We are dedicated to the challenge of representing, supporting and partnering with our Community to deliver solutions that enrich lives and help to Close the Gap. 

The Board is currently seeking a CEO to provide outstanding leadership of this incredibly important service. 

This role is critical in developing and maintaining the sustainability, effectiveness, and overall success of the organisation. 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Delivering affordable, accessible, and sustainable quality housing
  • Providing inspiring, inclusive, and accountable leadership
  • Working alongside the Board to implement and drive strategic, financial, and resourcing objectives
  • Acting as a key advocate and facilitator of partnerships, engaging with relevant stakeholders
  • Fostering economic development
  • Providing strategic, policy and administrative advice to the Board

Our ideal candidate will be a change agent with broad practical experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations and a passion for improving the lives of Aboriginal people. They will be an exceptional communicator with a strong partnership focus and hold themselves to the highest ethical standards.

Selection Criteria:

ESSENTIAL 

  1. Practical experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations and engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including knowledge and awareness of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal people, and ability to negotiate in accordance with cultural protocols.
  2. High- level of experience in strategic implementation, business and financial management with proven ability to develop policy and innovative development.
  3. High-level financial management skills with experience in business and government funding systems and budget management. Including preparation of grant submissions and acquittals.
  4. Demonstrated experience in workforce development and human resource management including strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others to work together as a team to achieve outcomes.
  5. Minimum 5 years’ demonstrated experience at senior management level within the areas of profit and not-for profit management and governance, and community relations.
  6. Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage a diverse organisation and to work effectively with a Board.
  7. Knowledge of the Aboriginal housing environment and the issues associated with the Territory Housing framework.
  8. Highly developed communication, negotiation, presentation, conflict resolution and report writing skills.
  9. Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal governance and the corporation’s responsibilities under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act) 2006.
  10. Successful applicants must have a Drive Licence, and a Police Clearance and OCHRE Card.

DESIRABLE  

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications to support the extensive experience and responsibility required for this position.
