CSIRO has undergone an executive re-shuffle to improve the way it conducts and delivers science.

The prestigious Australian research organisation has a long string of inventions and important achievements, and will now be led by a new team and a new arrangement to bring more good things in the future.

The researchers say the changes will make it easier to do business with CSIRO, and easier for staff to deliver results.

From July 2014, CSIRO will have three lines of business:

National facilities and collections
Impact science - including a new Flagship portfolio, and
Services - including education, publishing, infrastructure technologies, SME engagement and CSIRO Futures.

Duties have been rearranged so the key people from the different internal sections have more clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

Dr Dave Williams will be Executive Director National Facilities and Collections and will retain responsibility for the Information Management and Technology function.

Dr Maurice Moloney will be Executive Director Agribusiness, Food and Health, responsible for the Agricultural Productivity, Food and Nutrition and Biosecurity Flagships. Maurice will be responsible for the Black Mountain Precinct strategy.

Dr Anita Hill will be Executive Director Manufacturing, Productivity and Services, responsible for the Digital Productivity and Services and Future Manufacturing Flagships, as well as the Services line of business. Anita will be responsible for the Clayton and Parkville Precinct strategies. Anita will also chair the Health, Safety and Environment Committee.

Dr Andrew Johnson will be Executive Director Environment responsible for the Oceans and Atmosphere and Land and Water Flagships. He is also responsible for coordinating CSIRO’s Northern Australia strategy. Dr Johnson will oversee the Ecosystems Science Precinct in Brisbane and retains oversight of the Indigenous Engagement Strategy.

Dr Alex Wonhas will be Executive Director Energy and Resources responsible for the Minerals Flagship and Energy Flagship and the National Resources Science Precinct in Perth.

The process for filling the Flagship Director, Deputy Flagship (Science) Director, Services Director, and General Manager Business Development & Commercial roles is now underway.
