The Queensland Government has announced Adjunct Professor Peter Grant as the state’s new stand-alone Queensland Government Chief Information Officer (QGCIO).

Professor Grant was selected following an extensive merit selection process after the State Government announced its intention to create the CEO level role in July. Professor Grant will commence his role effective immediately.

“Peter brings over 40 years of experience to this position – half of which is in the public sector,” State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Simon Finn said.

“He has previously held senior executive roles across a range of State Government portfolios, including the Department of Public Works, Queensland Health and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland Transport at the time).

“In addition, Peter has diverse consulting experience, and was most recently engaged as an independent IT consultant with the Federal Departments of Human Services; Climate Change and Energy Efficiency; and Employment, Education and Workplace Relations.

Mr Finn said Professor Grant would report directly to him, but would also support the Director-General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and provide regular reports to Cabinet on implementation of the new shared services model and whole-of-Government ICT performance.
