Higher prices are not stopping students from enrolling in humanities courses.

With the price of some university degrees in Australia having doubled, universities are calling for the Job-Ready Graduates (JRG) package to be replaced with a fee structure that correlates with future earnings.

The JRG was designed to encourage students to study courses that correspond with Australia’s skill shortages, but critics say the move is ineffective and leads to higher attrition rates.

Universities Australia CEO Catriona Jackson believes that giving students clearer advice and education about job prospects and necessary skills is more effective than manipulating their financial contributions.

Meanwhile, Nathias Warkill from the Queensland University of Technology says that the JRG has far-reaching consequences for indigenous students.
