Assistant Director General – Several – Capability roles
Senior Executive Service Band 1
Salary may be negotiated with the successful candidates
Canberra - ACT
We are seeking to attract talented candidates for positions at the Senior Executive Service (SES) Band 1 level that will contribute to ASD’s mission and have relevant skills to work in enterprise capability and operational roles that lead the development, maintenance and growth of a number of ASD’s most critical capabilities.
ASD is currently undergoing a significant transformation – doubling in size, expanding its presence both nationally and globally, and delivering significant new and enhanced intelligence and security capabilities for Australia. As a senior leader in ASD, you will have an important role leading this change.
We have two roles currently available with an important focus on leading branches that provide critical technical capabilities for our mission:
• The Assistant Director-General Access Foundations (reference #5506) is responsible for the design, build and sustainment of signals intelligence access systems, including systems for terrestrial and space-related operations, and a range of ASD’s deployable collection capabilities used globally. The successful candidate will lead a large branch whose primary focus is building capabilities to access foreign signals intelligence across the full range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Technical leadership and program governance are highly desirable attributes.
• The Assistant Director-General Covert Infrastructure and Cyber Defence Systems Branch (reference #5507) will run a fast-growing branch responsible for the delivery of some of ASD’s most complex capabilities. This includes the management of ASD’s covert internet infrastructure which enables online signals intelligence collection and offensive cyber operations. The position is also responsible for design, build and sustainment of an increasing number of cyber security systems ASD deploys to identify, and enable offensive and defensive responses to, state-based and criminal cyber actors. Technical leadership and program governance are highly desirable attributes.
These positions manage a diverse, dispersed workforce and have responsibility for delivering significant elements of ASD’s ambitious transformation program. If interested in these roles, please apply for job ASD/09152/23.
Experience or ability to lead large technical teams, and/or experience leading development, delivery and maintenance or complex capabilities is desirable.
In all SES Band 1 positions, you will have responsibility for leading a Branch through ASD’s transformation, while continuing to deliver on the operational requirements of the position. You will work closely with international partners, and will manage an Australia-wide workforce.
As part of the Senior Leadership Group, you will play a key role in promoting and influencing a shared commitment to the strategic direction of ASD as the Australian Government’s foreign signals intelligence, offensive cyber, and cyber security agency. You will influence the strategic direction of ASD and work with colleagues across the Defence portfolio and Government to achieve results.
Successful applicants will exemplify ASD’s values and engender a culture of achievement, collaboration and agility. You will be self-aware, and will encourage and respect the diversity of ideas and perspectives that defines ASD’s workforce.
