How this position makes the difference to City of Melbourne… As the Head of Creative Urban Places, you will play a crucial senior role within Arts Melbourne.
You will be responsible for leading the Creative Urban Places team and overseeing the performance, deliverables and strategic direction of the Creative Urban Places program for the City of Melbourne.
You will be principally responsible for the strategic development and management for the safe delivery of a program of innovative and engaging temporary and permanent public art for the City of Melbourne.
You will be working collaboratively across the organisation and with external specialists, to provide subject matter expertise and leadership to Arts Melbourne and to the City of Melbourne, especially in regard to art in public places and the role of creativity in major capital projects.
You will play a key role in the delivery of the organisation’s Creative Strategy (in development) through leading the development of new models to integrate and thread creative practice into and through infrastructure projects.
As the Head of Creative Urban Places, you will be required to form and foster new strategic relationships, facilitate connections and develop effective networks to build and maintain support, funding and credibility for the program and creative integration approach.

You will bring… (Selection criteria)
- Significant leadership experience, preferably in a political or highly complex organisation with a demonstrated ability to navigate projects and initiatives these environments
- Development and maintenance of a diverse range of successful stakeholder relationships in complex situations
- Proven successful experience in programme and/or project management including management of significant capital and operational budgets
- Preferably experience in delivering art in public places and demonstrated understanding of strategic planning approaches, urban design principles and urban planning approaches
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills with the proven ability to use discretion, judgment and resilience in complex business and political environments.
- High level verbal, written and graphic communication skills, particularly the ability to prepare clear reports and with well-argued recommendations.
- Skilled in the use of various software packages, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, CAD would be advantageous.
