About the Opportunity
SWSLHD seeks an enthusiastic and inspirational Director, Population Health Research & Epidemiology. The Director will lead a new team to focus on population health impact at a local, state-wide, national and global level. Research will be aligned with the South Western Sydney Local Health District Strategic Plan: 2022-2027 and the Keeping People Healthy: SWSLHD Prevention Strategy to 2028.

The Director, Population Health Research & Epidemiology will lead Population Health research and provide decision making, advice and support to the Director, Population Health, SWSLHD. The position is responsible for implementing an evidence based approach that leads practice change and development across SWS.

What You'll be Doing
The Director, Population Health Research & Epidemiology will focus on population health impact at a local, state-wide, national and global level. Research will be aligned with the South Western Sydney Local Health District Strategic Plan: 2022-2027 and the Keeping People Healthy: SWSLHD Prevention Strategy to 2028.

The Director, Population Health Research & Epidemiology is responsible for leading Population Health research and providing decision making, advice and support to the Director, Population Health, SWSLHD. The position is responsible for implementing an evidence based approach that leads practice change and development across SWS. The position provides leadership to population health researchers in SWS and identifies research priorities.

As part of the Population Health leadership team at SWSLHD you will bring vision and clarity to your role, be a great communicator, self directed, with an ability to inspire, motivate and support people to reach their full potential. This position will support the SWSLHD Strategic Plan and Keeping People Healthy SWSLHD Prevention Plan to 2028 as well as relevant service operational or strategic plans.

This position will work alongside a passionate team of population health practitioners and researchers in the population health services and relevant clinicians and pursue a research program and supervise postgraduate students.

  1. Staff Specialist with Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia, and Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Medical Indemnity Coverage (Levels 2 to 5).
  2. Demonstrated high level experience in population health research in accordance with contemporary evidence-based best practice.
  3. Demonstrated experience in progressing research initiatives from inception through to publication. Evidence of a significant track record in achieving high-quality internationally recognised publications is required.
  4. A wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the Population Health and SWSLHD.
  5. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal with a diverse range of people as well work under minimum supervision. Excellent oral (interpersonal and advocacy) and written (report writing and peer-reviewed publications) communication skills and track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
  6. Experience, or sound understanding, in conducting systematic reviews to inform evidence-based population health programs.
  7. Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff and experience in the supervision of research students at Honours and higher degree level.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively with clinicians, researchers, and government and non-government agencies.
