John D Rogers, CFA, president and CEO of CFA Institute, has issued a call to action to the global investment community at the organization’s 65th Annual Conference in Chicago, calling on the profession to take personal responsibility to restore investor trust and reconnect with the public interest. Rogers outlined three steps the profession must take to achieve this goal, including exercising a bolder voice for professional ethics; focusing on financial activities that enable economic and social progress; and engaging with a wider community to share, teach and engage. Rogers unveiled the ‘Integrity List: 50 Ways to Restore Trust in the Investment Industry,’ a collection of tangible steps that investment professionals can take to restore trust in the industry. The list was inspired by more than 1,500 real-world ideas from CFA Institute members around the world. Rogers also listed the organization’s Asset Manager Code of Professional Conduct and its Research Foundation’s recent Primer to Trustee Responsibilities as examples of tools the profession can use to demonstrate integrity.
New chairman for FOXTEL

Dept of Health and Aging appoints new National Manager
The Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) has appointed Dr John Skerritt as the new National Manager of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) which is responsible for regulating therapeutic goods including medicines, medical devices, blood and blood products.
In making the announcement today, the Secretary of the DoHA, Professor Jane Halton, said Dr John Skerritt, who has a PhD in Pharmacology and is an adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland, is currently the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries in the Victorian Government and will come to the TGA with extensive experience in medical, agricultural and environmental policy, regulation, research, research management, technology application and commercialisation.
Dr Skerritt is the former Deputy CEO of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (a commonwealth statutory authority) and a two term Ministerial appointee on the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee (Office of Gene Technology Regulator). He has experience on Boards of international and national organisations and more than 25 years experience in negotiating, leading major technical and commercial collaborations with OECD and Asia-Pacific countries.
Honan to depart Transurban
Transurban’s CFO Tom Honan has announced his immediate resignation from the company and will br replaced by Samantha Hogg, three weeks after the appointment of Scott Charlton to the role of chief executive.

University of Queensland appoints new Vice-Chancellor
The University of Queensland has appointed Professor Peter Høj as its new Vice-Chancellor and President.
Professor Høj is the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of South Australia and his previous roles include Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Research Council and Managing Director of the Australian Wine Research Institute.
He was selected from a highly-competitive field of candidates.
Professor Høj said he was honoured to be granted the opportunity to lead a research-intensive institution of UQ's stature.
“I look forward to working with UQ staff, students and alumni to further enhance the University's already excellent global reputation for learning, research and outreach activities across a full spectrum of academic disciplines,” he said.
Professor Høj has a Master of Science, PhD and Honorary Doctorate from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
He has served on the Prime Minister's Science and Engineering Innovation Council, and his many awards include the Boehringer-Mannheim Medal from the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
In addition to his Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, he was recently appointed as a Foreign Member (Natural Sciences Class) of The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.
