The Victorian Government has hired Services Australia CIO Michael McNamara to lead a new digital arm of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Mr McNamara has spent almost three years leading the federal government’s largest department, but will now join Digital Victoria as its inaugural CEO.

Digital Victorias was launched earlier this month, bringing together a number of existing branches with the Victorian Centre for Data Insights.

Victoria’s government services minister Danny Pearson describes Mr McNamara as an “outstanding leader who brings a wealth of public, corporate and international experience to the new role”.

“I congratulate him on his appointment,” he said, adding that “Digital Victoria will deliver the faster and simpler government services that Victorians deserve”.
