About Us:

The Queensland Indigenous Business Network (QIBN) is a newly established, independent representative body created to provide a strong and unified voice for Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses. QIBN aims to champion the interests of Indigenous entrepreneurs, drive economic growth, foster partnerships, and advocate for essential support and resources. As a dynamic organization, we are committed to enabling Indigenous businesses to thrive, particularly in the unique cultural, economic, and geographical context of Queensland.

Position Overview:

QIBN is seeking a dynamic and visionary Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader to serve as its inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO will be responsible for the strategic direction, growth, and operational excellence of the organization. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a transformative initiative that will have a lasting impact on Indigenous businesses, local communities, and regional economies in Queensland. We are looking for a passionate advocate who can lead QIBN to become a central hub for Indigenous businesses, government engagement, and industry collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan that aligns with the mission and objectives of QIBN.
  • Provide visionary leadership to drive innovation, growth, and sustainability in Queensland's Indigenous business sector.

Advocacy and Representation:

  • Act as the primary spokesperson and advocate for QIBN, representing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses to government agencies, corporate partners, and the public.
  • Advocate for policies, initiatives, and resources that support the economic development and sustainability of Indigenous businesses in Queensland.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with government entities, industry partners, Indigenous organizations, and community leaders.
  • Work closely with regional Hub locations to ensure the QIBN is responsive to the diverse needs of Queensland's Indigenous business community.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for partnership, investment, and capacity-building.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the financial health of QIBN, including budgeting, financial reporting, and resource allocation.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities to support QIBN's initiatives, programs, and services.

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure effective day-to-day operations of QIBN, including staff management, governance, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Build and lead a motivated team dedicated to achieving the organization's objectives.
  • Develop and implement efficient processes and systems to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Member and Business Community Engagement:

  • Cultivate and grow QIBN's membership base, ensuring that the needs of Indigenous businesses and entrepreneurs are met.
  • Organize member events, networking opportunities, and educational programs.

Program Development and Delivery:

  • Collaborate with government and local business communities to develop and deliver services that facilitate Indigenous business growth, employment, and community development.
  • Implement and refine programs that address capacity development, access to networks, advocacy, and business development support.

Performance Measurement and Reporting:

  • Establish clear performance measures and targets for the QIBN to ensure results-oriented operations.
  • Maintain a commitment to transparency, accountability, and reporting to key stakeholders.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. A deep commitment to advancing the economic interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and communities.
  2. Proven executive leadership experience, ideally in a non-profit organization, business development, or Indigenous-focused entity.

  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, including the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and represent the organisation effectively.
  5. Experience in advocacy, government relations, or public policy is highly desirable
  6. Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
  7. Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, or securing financial support.
  8. An understanding of Indigenous business issues, challenges, and opportunities.
  9. Familiarity with Queensland's cultural, geographical, and economic context is an asset.
  10. An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
