Package valued between $151,239 to $188,041 including:

  • Base salary of $89,444 to $118,572 per annum
  • Employer contribution to superannuation at 16% of base salary

The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is currently seeking a motivated, professional and suitably qualified person to join our team as the Electrical and Control Engineer within the Indian Ocean Territories Power Service (IOTPS) based on Christmas Island. 

The IOTPS is the recognised Network Operator for the Indian Ocean Territories (IOTs) and is responsible for the generation and distribution of a safe, reliable and efficient electricity supply to residential, commercial and industrial consumers on Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. IOTPS also provides regulatory compliance in collaboration with the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.

The key responsibilities of the Electrical and Control Engineer are to provide technical leadership and direction in the field of electrical and controls engineering; provide day to day engineering and technical support to the electrical team and power station team and to maintain a safe working environment at all times.

Our ideal candidate will possess relevant industry knowledge; have experience in field or site based roles or experience supporting field based teams; have a strong team work ethic and ability to positively influence others; and have demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to, Work Health and Safety regulations, codes and specifications as well as experience in the application of safe work behaviours. With suitable training/licensing, they will also operate high electrical test equipment.

Applicants with a working knowledge of power generation; experience in PLC programming; experience in leading teams and experience living and working in a remote cross cultural setting with be well regarded.

To be considered, applicants must possess an Electrical Engineering Degree (or equivalent computer/control/ mechatronics engineering degree) that would qualify for Professional Engineer membership of Engineers Australia; obtain a satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, hold a current ‘C’ class manual Drivers Licence transferable to the Indian Ocean Territories and will be subject to a health assessment.
