Medical Adviser

 

An exciting opportunity exists for medical practitioners seeking to apply their experience and communication skills to a broader, non-clinical role in the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. 

AskMBS 

  • Draw on clinical knowledge/experience to interpret legislation, rules, regulations, MBS items and explanatory notes supporting the department’s policy and compliance activities to prepare high quality responses to complex clinical and technical enquiries including interpretation and application of MBS items, relevant to the Health Insurance Act 1973, the Dental Benefits Act 2008 and the National Health Act 1953 and associated regulations and legislative instruments to support best practice Medicare Benefits billing; 
  • Collaborate with and support internal policy experts to develop and test advice/responses to ensure clinical, legal interpretation and compliance in responses to internal requests, external enquiries and public communications;  

PRP 

  • Identify and assess health practitioners under the Practitioner Review Program who may be rendering, requesting or prescribing inappropriately, through the analysis of data. 
  • Manage a case load, including: 
    • conducting practitioner interviews to communicate concerns of possible inappropriate practice, 
    • opreparing concise written reports and correspondence to practitioners to advise on findings, outcomes and next steps. 
  • Apply clinical experience and professional advice to support the development and implementation of other compliance activities and policies. 
  • Undertake ongoing learning and development relevant to the role.
