Senior Executive Service Band 1

The Corporate and Capability Group within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) delivers a range of corporate and enterprise wide services that enable and support the operations of ASD and support the Executive.

We are seeking experienced and dynamic Senior Executives to drive the organisation forward and deliver outcomes across a range of corporate functions. There are a range of actual or anticipated vacancies in the Corporate and Capability Group at the Senior Executive Service (SES) Band 1 level. Roles that may be available include:

  • People Services the people services Branch provides a range of services including recruitment, entry and graduate pathways, workforce planning and talent management. The role oversees work health and safety arrangements within the agency, alongside workplace relations and management of grievances and disputes. The position is also responsible for diversity activities and implementing initiatives that support positive employee engagement.
  • Property and Facilities – the role leads planning and delivery of property and estate projects across Australia in accordance with the ASD National Facilities Plan, on-going support and maintenance of existing ASD facilities, and engagement with Defence Estate and Infrastructure Group. The role is also responsible for the enterprise-level business continuity policies and frameworks.
  • Security and Integrity – this role leads the establishment of strategic objectives and associated processes for managing organisational integrity matters and security threats, risks and vulnerabilities to ASD’s people, information and assets. The role also fulfils ASD’s responsibilities as a shared services provider of security assurance to the Defence Intelligence Agencies.
  • Deputy General Counsel – the Deputy General Counsel leads a small legal team to provide high quality legal advice on complex matters relevant to the National Intelligence Community, in particular in relation to the operation of the Intelligence Services Act 2001 and Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979, workplace relations law (in particular the Workplace Relations Act 1996 and the Fair Work Act 2009), and legal aspects of policy development. The role also includes engagement on behalf of ASD with the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security.
  • Compliance, Audit and Risk – this role leads the development and management of organisational policy and processes to ensure ASD’s operational functions are undertaken in compliance with the law. It also manages ASD’s Office of Audit and Risk, enabling independent advice and assurance to senior decision-makers on the appropriateness of ASD’s risk oversight, management and internal control mechanisms.

As part of the Senior Leadership Group, you will play a key role in promoting and influencing a shared commitment to the strategic direction of ASD as the Australian Government’s foreign signals intelligence, offensive cyber, and cyber security agency.

As a Branch Head (SES Band 1) you will join ASD’s Senior Leadership Group and play a key role in leading and influencing a high-performing integrated civilian/military organisation. You will influence the strategic direction of ASD and work with colleagues across the Defence portfolio and Government to achieve results. In these roles you will:

  • lead and manage a Branch using inclusive leadership, including leading change and transformation initiaives in support of ASD’s objectives;
  • exercise high-level judgement, and capitalise on innovative alternatives to resolve complex problems;
  • think laterally, effectively challenge the status quo and provide contestability in decision making; and
  • demonstrate resilience and take personal accountability for achieving results.
