We are looking for an experienced scientist or engineer with strong stakeholder engagement experience, and a passion for delivering quality project and trial outcomes within set timeframes. This exciting role involves coordinating integrated intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (I-ISR) activities that support Defence projects, and the development of integrated information systems to support decision making. In this role you will contribute to a culture of innovation that drives our More Together: Defence Science and Technology Strategy.

As the Integrated ISR Specialist you will:

  • Contribute to the shape and future direction of I-ISR capabilities for the war-fighter.
  • Provide high level scientific or technical advice to I-ISR capability decision makers.
  • Guide the guide development of I-ISR capabilities across a number of I-ISR projects and programs.
  • Undertake considerable and regular stakeholder engagement to further Defence projects.
  • Act as a Project Science and Technology Advisor (PSTA) for integrated ISR projects, providing input into capability development and shaping associated S&T program addressing risk.
  • Liaise with subject matter experts to prepare technical risk assessments of technologies.
  • Work collaboratively with Defence partners including industry, academia and Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.
  • Form and lead ad-hoc cross divisional teams as needed to achieve I-ISR activities.
  • Contribute to the design and conduct of I-ISR trials.
  • Report research findings to Defence partners and the scientific community through high quality scientific reports, briefs, publications and presentations.
  • Supervise and mentor staff to promote a healthy culture that values staff, innovation and excellence in science.
  • Manage allocated resources, set work area priorities, manage workflows, develop strategies and evaluate business outcomes.

A merit pool will be created from the list of suitable applicants which may be used to fill future positions in the event a position becomes vacant within the 12 months from gazettal date of this position.

About our Team
Intelligence, Surveillance and Space Division (ISSD) undertakes internationally-recognised research and development into technologies aimed at enhancing national capability for Defence and national agency decision makers.

The role is within ISR Information Systems group, within Integrated ISR branch in ISSD.

ISR Information Systems group develops generic and agile architectures for the integration and dissemination of ISR data to enable decision superiority. In addition, the group undertakes research on the assimilation of data from multiple ISR sources, and systems that facilitate the interrogation of ISR data to enhance capability and sense making.
