The Role
Special Operations Command (SOCOMD) is seeking an experienced Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Manager to join its small team of APS, military and contracting staff who design and run its organic ICT enterprise under the auspices of the broader Defence network environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of a leading edge Defence network, maintaining and improving the core and deployed elements in a challenging and dynamic environment. The ICT Manager will be required to implement industry best practice whilst complying with Commonwealth and Defence policies ensuring that the network evolves to meet emerging security threats and evolving user requirements, and can rapidly take advantage of new technologies in order to maintain the cutting edge.

SOCOMD is a diverse workplace and this position has people management responsibility and as such you will be required to exercise your people management skills and knowledge to lead a high performing and cohesive team.  You will work collaboratively as part of the broader SOCOMD and Defence team.

You will be expected to confidently and articulately represent the interests of SOCOMD and Army within the broader Defence ICT operating environment.

About our Team
The EL2 ICT Manager will work from HMAS HARMAN in a modern, purpose built facility, supported by a small professional team. The successful applicant reports directly to an Army Brigadier and will supervise a large multi-tiered team consisting of a mixture of Contractors, APS and ADF staff.

Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful our ideal applicant will:

  • Have experience with ICT Service Management and Delivery, including knowledge and expertise to plan, organise, direct, control and coordinate the acquisition, development, maintenance and use of computer and telecommunications systems within a highly secure and sensitive organisation.
  • Be able to resolve complex information management issues detailing the tools you use to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Be a clear and concise communicator with the ability to effectively engage and support executives, staff and external stakeholders at all levels, and represent the organisation at technical forums and committees as required.
  • Be able to prepare high quality written briefs and negotiate effectively with stakeholders and team members to support the delivery of ICT mission systems.
  • Have strong experience with preparing plans, including risk management, financial responsibilities, resource allocation to ensure successful delivery complex ICT systems.
  • Have demonstrated public service leadership skills, professionalism and probity.
  • Be able to work in an operationally focused high tempo organisation with flexibility and agility as key attributes, and an ability to independently prioritise, assign and evaluate workloads
