Assistant Secretary ICT Strategy Realisation  

The Department of Defence is seeking a dynamic senior executive with the ability to drive the organisation forward, look for new ways to deliver better ICT services and improve the ICT environment to ensure work can be carried out as securely and efficiently as possible.

The Assistant Secretary ICT Strategy Realisation is responsible for the ICT Strategy and ICT Policy that supports Defence business and military operations. You will be required to understand and monitor a range of external factors such as changes and innovation in the ICT field and emerging integrated operational needs of Defence. This includes regular improvements to established doctrine, policies and governance.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in ICT doctrine and policy development;
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant political and environmental contexts;
  • Demonstrated experience with ICT strategy development in a large organisation; and
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and government requirements.

As a Branch Head (SES Band 1) you will join the Senior Leadership Group that plays a key role in promoting and influencing a shared civilian/military commitment to the strategic direction of Defence. In this role you will:

  • lead and manage a Branch practicing inclusive leadership and collaboration
  • demonstrate strong judgement and capitalise on innovative alternatives to resolve complex problems
  • effectively challenge the status quo when required
  • demonstrate resilience and personal accountability for the quality of advice and delivery of results
  • demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role, you must be:

  • An Australian citizen or intending to become one, and
  • Assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance.
