The Department of Defence is seeking an outstanding senior executive for Defence’s Chief Technology Officer role and will lead Defence’s Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) Technology Division.

The Chief Information Officer Group, within the Department of Defence, is responsible for ensuring that Defence has a dependable, secure and integrated Defence Single Information Environment (SIE) that ties together Defence’s ICT to enable military operations and support Defence business.

As the head of the Technology Division, you will be responsible for strategic guidance and technical direction for Defence ICT and ensuring appropriate commercial arrangements are in place.

Specifically you will also have responsibility for:

  • Defence ICT Strategy
  • Defence ICT Enterprise Architecture
  • Defence New and Emerging Technologies
  • Defence Technical Authority for Command, Control, Communications, Computers (ICT), Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR)

To be a strong contender for this role, you will need to have extensive experience in ICT, including in more than one organisation. You will require knowledge and practical experience in delivering ICT strategy, ICT enterprise architecture and providing technical direction in a large, complex and diverse organisation. Prior experience in a large scale highly complex business transformation is highly desirable. In addition, an understanding of new and emerging technologies and their applicability to Defence will be critical. You will also have strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability as a persuasive leader to communicate highly technical information to a wide audience. The position requires strong leadership to drive change and reform in a large organisation.

To be eligible for the role, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen or intending to become one, and
  • assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance.
