Assistant Secretary Program Management


The Department of Defence is seeking to fill the Senior Executive Service Band 1 position of the Assistant Secretary Program Management in the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group. The position is based in Canberra.

The Assistant Secretary Program Management is responsible for engagement of all project management related practitioners across Defence, particularly within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group. This position leads the implementation of the Program Management Centre of Expertise and is responsible for the matrix management of over 1000 program and project management professionals.

The ultimate aim of the role is to enable the delivery of military capability to the Australian Defence Force by ensuring the provision of the right person, with the right skills, at the right time. To achieve this, the leader must deliver and implement contemporary policy and practice, lead the governance and assurance of project, product and program management and the provide professionalisation of the members within the Centre of Expertise.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate within the Defence Senior Executive Service Band 1 salary range.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for ongoing appointment, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This position is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment to the appropriate level.
