ASD is seeking a highly motivated, outcomes-driven senior executive to fill the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO), based in Canberra ACT.

The role reports directly to the Director-General ASD and is responsible for managing ASD’s corporate support services and overseeing the organisation’s daily administration and business operations. The COO leads ASD’s finance, people, learning and development, audit, risk, compliance, property, strategy, governance, legal, security and integrity teams.

The COO will lead their group through a far-reaching transformation recognising the rapid pace of development in technology and a fluid international security environment, while continuing to deliver on the operational requirements of the position.

As a member of ASD’s Executive, you will make a substantial contribution to shaping the agency’s strategic priorities by anticipating and responding to external drivers that may impact ASD’s operations, upholding good governance and making complex decisions balancing opportunity and risk-based outcomes.

The successful applicant will have the demonstrated ability to leverage and sustain productive working relationships across Defence, the Australian Defence Force, National Intelligence Community, international and domestic partners and industry, as well as a solid understanding of government processes and demonstrated success in working with Ministers.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis. To be eligible, applicants must be Australian citizens. This is a security-designated position and the successful applicant will be required to hold or obtain a Top Secret Positive Vetting security clearance

A Merit Pool of highly suitable candidates will be established to fill similar vacancies that may occur within the next 18 months.
