With an enviable track record including the Triple P Program, Gardasil Vaccine and Image Correction Technology in magnetic resonance imaging machines around the world, UniQuest has already built up a strong reputation and network with relevant industry stakeholders. As part of an ongoing strategy to further enhance and build commercial opportunities from the University’s intellectual property (IP), UniQuest is looking for experienced business development managers to join their business.

As a Director, Commercial Engagement you will be the key link between the University’s world-renowned research and industry and investment organisations looking for commercial opportunities. Each Director, Commercial Engagement will manage projects and commercialisation opportunities based on their area of specialisation. UniQuest has opportunities in both their Physical Science and Life Science teams for high caliber professionals with subject matter expertise in the fields of engineering, materials, physics, chemistry, digital health, therapeutics/drug discovery, personalised medicine, medical devices and/or diagnostics.

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Developing strong effective relationships with UQ researchers to identify potential opportunities to commercialise IP;
  • Formulating and executing strategies to drive commercial outcomes;
  • Attracting and networking with potential key investors and industry stakeholders;
  • Structuring, negotiating and closing transactions to maximise value for the organization;
  • Managing and maintaining a portfolio of qualified projects and IP/patent applications;
  • Ensuring greater understanding of the commercialisation process amongst the UQ research community.

To be considered for these challenging roles, you will preferably have an understanding of university research management and university funding systems, as well as proven ability to build relationships across a large research community and industry networks.

You will have demonstrable experience in technology and IP commercialisation, and a track record of transactions (licenses and/or start-ups). Effective as a relationship builder with a collaborative, outcomes-focused approach to operating in a high performing culture, you have sound knowledge of the University environment. Tertiary qualifications in a field aligned to the study of Physical or Life Sciences is essential.
