 The Opportunity

As Department Manager Asset Planning and Design, you will be the driving force behind the continuous improvement and expansion of TasWater’s $2 billion asset portfolio. You will lead the development and implementation of planning and engineering solutions for all assets across the state. In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring that the risks associated with TasWater’s portfolio of dams are managed in accordance with the Tasmanian Dam Safety Legislation and ANCOLD Guidelines. 

The Challenges

The successful incumbent will be exposed to a role that is both challenging and fulfilling. Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and oversee the development of project scoping documents to describe the problem or opportunity to be addressed for potential projects
  • Manage the preparation of business cases to identify a solution for a preferred project option, and obtain funding approvals for projects 
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Dam Safety Management Strategy and Dam Safety Management Plan in order to meet regulatory obligations
  • Coordinate and oversee the development of standard designs based on technical requirements, ensuring consistent, timely and cost effective designs for infrastructure solutions 

Who are you?

You will be a leader in the engineering field; with the ability to drive improvement. To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in contemporary asset management practices including the development of plans and business cases that balance performance, cost and risk to customer service levels
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge in water and sewerage systems design processes
  • Proven experience water utility sector or similar where you have successfully lead and managed a diverse team in order to achieve corporate objectives
