Currently we are looking for an Urban Planner to join our Planning and Building team.
How this position makes the difference to City of Melbourne…Reporting to the Principal Urban Planner, you will work collaboratively as part of a team for the provision of effective, responsive, high quality development planning services within the City.
Duties will includes but not limited to, processing, making decisions and recommendations on a range of planning applications and referrals, including complex land use and development proposals in line with the principles identified above. In addition, you will also provide specialist technical and general planning advice to both internal and external customers.
All members of the Planning Team provide pro-active, cost effective and customer oriented planning services, in order to promote activity, growth and prosperity in the City of Melbourne. We work to ensure a balance between the need for regulation, and the need to facilitate land use and development and encourage residents, businesses and visitors to live, work in and enjoy the city.
We are looking for someone who can confidently demonstrate their technical experience in the field and are customer focus orientated. You pride yourself on your highly developed interpersonal, consultation, negotiation and presentation skills.

Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence

Qualification to degree level in Planning and/or eligibility for graduate membership of PIA

Experience in a planning office and good knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act and planning processes

Good interpersonal skills including the ability to mediate, negotiate and resolve conflicts

Proven customer service skills and the ability to deliver outcomes in a professional and effective manner
-
Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal including the ability to prepare comprehensive reports and make recommendations
-
High level organisational skills and the ability to work in a semi-autonomous environment
-
Ability to analyse and interpret a wide range of information and issues
-
High level written and oral communication skills including the ability to prepare reports and make recommendations in a clear, concise and timely manner
-
Ability to represent Council at public forums, including VCAT
-
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and contribute to team processes.
