About us
The Legal Services Council (Council) is an intergovernmental statutory corporation created by the Legal Profession Uniform Law and is hosted by the Department of Communities and Justice. The Council sets the policy which underpins the Legal Profession Uniform Law, ensuring it is applied consistently across participating States. The Council monitors the implementation of the Legal Profession Uniform Law, Rules and Regulations; develops Uniform General Rules; and issues guidelines and directions to local regulatory authorities about the exercise of their functions.

The Council's work is overseen by a Standing Committee which comprises the Attorneys General of jurisdictions participating in the scheme, currently Victoria and NSW, and for specific functions, Western Australia.
The LSC’s Secretariat supports the Council and the Commissioner for Uniform Legal Services Regulation, (Commissioner). Secretariat staff are employees of the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).
DCJ shares a common purpose across many areas of work, particularly when it comes to improving outcomes for children and young people, Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people experiencing domestic and family violence, victims of sexual assault, juvenile offenders, people at high risk of reoffending, and people experiencing homelessness.

About the role
This position assists the Senior Principal Policy Officer in the development, delivery and implementation of a portfolio of Uniform Law policy initiatives and reforms that support the Council and the Commissioner. This role also will liaise with stakeholders as part of a Secretariat team.
