The Department of Defence is seeking senior executive to fill the position of Deputy Secretary Capability Acquisition and Sustainment.

The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment (CAS) Group is charged with supporting the security of Australia and its national interests by acquiring, maintaining and disposing of military equipment for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

As Deputy Secretary, you will lead a large and integrated workforce including ADF, public servants and contractors. You will be responsible for delivering a significant long term Government investment in Defence’s warfighting equipment and supporting systems to ensure Australia maintains a regionally superior ADF.

You will also be responsible for leading complex and challenging cultural and organisational reform including building a flexible and skilled workforce and managing talent. You will continue to embed changes outlined in the First Principles Review while seeking further opportunities for reform.

You will have a demonstrated ability to develop strong and effective partnerships with industry and customers.

The Deputy Secretary reports directly to the Secretary of Defence and will also work closely with Defence Ministers, the Chief of the Defence Force and other members of the Defence Senior Executive.

Given the significant scope and responsibility of the role, the successful candidate should have extensive and demonstrated experience in managing large commercial supply chain and project management organisations at a senior level. A demonstrated track record in leadership and ability to interact effectively with all levels of Government and Industry is also highly desirable.

To be eligible for engagement, an applicant must be, or intend to become, an Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the highest level. While this position will be located in Canberra, commuting options may be considered.
