The Department of Defence is seeking to fill the Senior Executive Service Band 1 position of Assistant Secretary Strategic Critical Infrastructure & Foreign Investment in the Strategic Policy and Intelligence Group. The position is based in Canberra.

This key position provides strategic policy advice which informs long term policy settings, including in relation to foreign investment, critical infrastructure, and the Woomera Prohibited Area. The position operates in a ‘reform’ environment managing legislative reform programs, extensive consultation and developing policy and processes to enable implementation. The responsibilities of the role have government, industry, community, national and international impacts and contribute to organisational strategies and Defence-wide initiatives.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate within the Defence Senior Executive Service Band 1 salary range.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for ongoing appointment, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This position is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment to the appropriate level.
