The Department of Defence is seeking to fill a Senior Executive Service Band 1 position within the Australian Signal Directorate.

The Assistant Secretary Access Effects and Enablement position is responsible for developing and managing capabilities to support the Intelligence-related Access and Computer Network Operations and Offensive Cyber Operations. These responsibilities are achieved in accordance with national and corporate priorities and within approved resources.

Specifically, the position is accountable for:

  • building Defence's next generation Intelligence-related Computer Network Operations and Offensive Cyber capabilities;
  • developing and fostering strong Australian-based industry capacity in the cyber domain;
  • planning for and building integrated intelligence and operational capabilities with the Australian Intelligence community, the Australian Defence Force, and International partners; and
  • leading, retaining and growing a technical workforce, which includes software and hardware engineers, Cryptanalysts and Signals Development professionals.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate within the Defence SES Band 1 salary range.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for engagement, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. These positions are security-designated positions. Successful applicants will be required to undergo security assessments to the appropriate level.
