Icon Water is seeking a professional and motivated candidate with strong leadership qualities to take on the role of Manager Environment and Sustainability. This role is responsible for leading a skilled and dedicated team who deliver professional environmental management services and drive organisational sustainability programs.

Icon Water is responsible for owning and operating Canberra’s network of water and wastewater infrastructure and assets including dams, reservoirs, water and sewerage treatment plants, water and sewerage pumping stations to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water and reliable sewerage services. Icon Water has been part of the Canberra community for 100 years.

About the role

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Ensuring Icon Water’s accountabilities for natural water resource, environment and sustainability compliance requirements are met through management programs, that are clearly articulated through policies, procedures, training, monitoring, enforcement and reporting.
  • Developing partnerships with the ACT and NSW Governments to drive a risk based catchment management strategy to secure a high standard of source waters for Icon Water’s bulk water supply.
  • Develop programs to monitor, review and report on Icon Water’s range of environmental legal obligations and environmental compliance.

What are we looking for? (selection criteria)

The successful applicant will have:

  1. Qualifications. Relevant tertiary qualifications, such as a Bachelor Degree in environmental engineering, science or environmental management are mandatory.
  2. Knowledge. Knowledge of leading environmental management practices and sustainability issues relevant to a water utility and knowledge of ACT and NSW environmental protection, conservation, planning and climate change legislation and policies.
  3. Experience. Experience to meet the requirements of the Position Description, including extensive experience or technical knowledge in the management of a range of environment and sustainability programs, environmental policy and strategic planning roles.
  4. Attributes. Initiative, a service orientation and strategic approach.
  5. Skills. Leadership, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
