The Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre, in the Division of Research (http://www.analytical.unsw.edu.au), currently comprises 9 centrally managed research facilities, housing the most important major instruments used in the Faculties of Science, Medicine and Engineering for the study of the structure and composition of biological, chemical and physical materials and also includes preparation laboratories, computational and data analysis facilities. It has developed over the past 10 years into a world-class centre for research infrastructure and scientific support. The Executive Director has the opportunity to lead the Analytical Centre in the next phase of its development, in the context of UNSW’s bold and ambitious 2025 Strategy to be established within the next decade as Australia’s global university - among the top 50 in the world.


About the role

  • A salary package, including performance-based bonus, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • A continuing academic appointment at Level D or E, with a 5-year appointment as Executive Director (renewable)
  • Full-time

The Executive Director of the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre is a senior leadership role within the Division of Research. The Director has responsibility for directing and leading the operations, research use and future development of the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre, with the aim of providing world-class infrastructure for UNSW researchers.

The role of Executive Director offers an exciting opportunity for an established research-focused academic or industrial scientist with a vision for how research infrastructure and support can drive research excellence. The Director will have an excellent research track record, major infrastructure experience, strong leadership and management qualities and ability to contribute strategically to the research aspirations of UNSW.
