Business Development and Commercialisation Manager - Government

The Position

CSIRO’s Data61 is seeking to appoint a Business Development and Commercialisation Manager (BD&C) within their Government group.

As the successful candidate you will leverage and build on your relevant expertise with Government engagement to drive partnerships and obtain deal closures within the business development/sales pipeline. You will create opportunities for Data61 infrastructure, software and services by generating leads, responding to lead generation and negotiating contracts.

You will work closely with Data61 and CSIRO researchers to propose new collaborations and communicate our research and our impact to Governments. You will help the growth of the Government’s understanding of Data61 capabilities and role as Australia’s national data and digital innovation agency.

In this position you will need to have a passion for delivering outstanding service to Government customers, understand Government needs and pain points, and have a strong interest in the impact that data-driven technologies and practices can have on Australia. You will need to be a creative, strategic thinker who is focused on solving problems for Governments. You will have a strong ownership mindset and be able to independently manage projects and relationships. 

Your duties will include
  • Lead and drive new partnerships with Governments focused on research and data innovation;
  • Develop and communicate proposals for Government partners in collaboration with researchers that align with Data61’s capabilities and strategic priorities;
  • Proactively develop and implement Government engagement strategies and manage complex issues as they arrive;
  • Establish and manage senior level relationships across multiple Government stakeholders;
  • Support BD&C Group Leader and Director in ensuring that Research & Development (R&D) projects undertaken by the BD&C Team are based on understanding the needs of the defined industry sector, and the opportunities for strategic research to make an impact on these needs.

Location: Eveleigh NSW, Black Mountain ACT or Docklands VIC (Other locations may be considered)
Salary:  AU$136k - AU$150k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need
  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, business or a related field;
  • At least five years experience in corporate, government or public administration within innovation setting, or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working in senior roles in industry or with government.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to partner effectively with external organisations – including government organisations - to identify opportunities to deliver technology-based solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, participating in and finalising commercial arrangements ready for approval, including the preparation of business plans, information memoranda, due diligence and negotiations with strategic partners.
