Manager Waste

Cairns Regional Council plays a fundamental role in planning and providing for the Cairns community. Servicing a population of over 150,000 across an area of nearly 1700km2 from Bramston Beach to Palm Cove, we deliver more than 400 services and functions.

Manager Waste

This is a key leadership position within Water and Waste Department and is responsible for overseeing the activities of the Waste Services Branch including:

  • effective management of Council’s waste and recycling functions;
  • review and implementation of Cairns Regional Council’s Waste Management Strategy; and
  • provision of high level strategic direction to the General Manager Water and Waste.

To be successful in the role you will have demonstrated experience in a management role in public or private sector solid waste or recycling organisation; and a commitment to and practice of a participative leadership style that supports, motivates and inspires individual, team and corporate achievements. You must have a high level of experience in Contract Development, Tendering Processes and Contract Management as well as experience in Financial Control and Planning of Operational activities in Waste Management or related Utility Industries. You will have superior communication and negotiation skills, including a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff and a range of internal and external customers, as well as a proven ability to promote and support the achievement of a customer focused organisation
