Chief Operating Officer

Exciting New Leadership Role

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has recently adopted a new organisation structure which will see a dramatic departure from the traditional four Directorates in WA Local Governments, now collapsed into just two Directorates, both reporting to the CEO.  This is an exciting and innovative development for the City and reflects a philosophy that all staff are City resources to be deployed in a way that achieves the best outcomes for customers.

The City is preparing to enter 2016/17 with a strong focus on performing better and making it easier to do business.  These two new Directorates will be headed by two executives, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).  Both will be autonomous decision making roles with the people appointed challenged to be accountable for their actions and deliverables.

The COO will lead a team responsible for a broad range of Council's strategic functions, including: Planning, Development and Regulatory Services; Engineering Services; Asset Planning; Community Services and Engagement; Sports, Arts and Leisure; and Customer Services.  It is likely that the COO will have similar senior level/executive experience in leading one or more of planning, regulatory, engineering or community services in a large Local Government.

The CEO's expectation is that the incoming COO will further refine the proposed Directorate structure, define more specifically the roles of each functional area, and where required, appoint Managers to key leadership positions.

People interested in being considered for this position should bring relevant senior executive experience in a large Australian Local Government. Appropriate professional and tertiary qualifications are essential. More than anything though, we seek a strategic leader with drive, energy and ambition, who is capable of making decisions and achieving meaningful results.

Please see www.ckb.wa.gov.au for further information on the City. The remuneration package will be circa $250,000 per annum plus the additional benefits usually associated with being based in a regional location in WA. The position will be offered on the basis of an employment contract of up to 5 years in duration.
