About the opportunity 

The Heart Research Institute (HRI) and the Charles Perkins Centre of the University of Sydney are seeking exceptional national and international early to mid-career researchers with the potential to become global leaders in cardiovascular research for the Sydney Cardiovascular Fellowships 2018.

We are targeting outstanding early to mid-career independent research leaders with a package including research support valued at $1,000,000 over five years, or truly exceptional mid-career or later research leaders, for whom we will negotiate an appropriately attractive package including research support (up to $2,000,000 over 5 years). These opportunities represent the most prestigious fellowships in Australia for early and mid-career cardiovascular researchers.

The HRI, in partnership with the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and affiliated Medical Research Institutes represent the largest consortium of cardiovascular researchers in Australia.

The $500 million investment in the Charles Perkins Centre by the University of Sydney represents one of the largest single investments in diabetes, obesity, and CV research globally.

• Atherosclerosis and its complications
• Vascular biology and thromboembolic disease
• Cardiometabolic disease
• Cardiovascular tissue engineering and biomaterials
• Cardiovascular genetics and sudden cardiac death
• Thromboembolic diseases in diabetes and cancer
• Medicinal Chemistry / Chemical Biology

Applicants performing research in these or complementary areas will be considered.

The Sydney Cardiovascular Research Consortium (Sydney CRC) is a partnership between Heart Research Institute (HRI), The University of Sydney (USYD), Charles Perkins Centre (CPC), Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA), Sydney Local Health District (SLHD), and affiliated medical research institutes such as the Centenary Institute and The George Institute for Global Health. This consortium brings together enormous resources and expertise in a unified and focused collaboration.
