The City of Sydney leads in the production of quality urban places through design excellence processes. The City's 'Competitive Design Policy' is devised to elevate design outcomes across a range of criteria to achieve excellence. It establishes a pathway that eligible development undergo the rigors of a competitive design process.

The City Planning, Development and Transport division has established a design governance framework to support the attainment of excellence and is responsible for developing and delivering the City's aspirations through competitive design processes and competitions.

If you are an experienced planner, urban designer or architect, this is a unique opportunity to work closely with the Design Excellence Manager and a dynamic team in implementing the design excellence program that balances investment with the public interest.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate capable of balancing a broad range of stakeholder needs and expectations, negotiating and delivering positive outcomes in a timely manner. The successful applicant will have great clarity and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This is a project oriented, diverse and challenging environment.

The successful applicant will hold tertiary qualifications in planning, urban design, architecture or a related field and have demonstrated practical expertise in design quality and development assessment processes and be able to speak on developer terms.

Applicants must possess high level of adaptability, organisational skills, demonstrate an ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively as part of a vibrant and dedicated planning assessment and delivery team. Applicants will also be solutions focused.
