The British government is restricting the use of Chinese surveillance cameras over security fears.

The UK Government has told all departments to stop installing Chinese-linked surveillance cameras at sensitive buildings, after a review of “current and future possible security risks”.

“The review has concluded that, in light of the threat to the UK and the increasing capability and connectivity of these systems, additional controls are required,” cabinet office minister Oliver Dowden said.

The directive applies to all cameras made by companies that are subject to Chinese security laws.

The government has also issued guidance for departments to disconnect such devices from core computer networks and to consider removing them altogether.
