An analysis conducted by the Sun-Herald shows that more than half of the senior executive teams of Australia's top 200 listed companies are exclusively male.

The Sun-Herald analysis shows that the top 10 of those 200 high performing companies have never once recorded employing a senior female executive.

Research conducted by the Women in Leadership initiative shows that women account for 3 per cent of the CEOs of the country's top listed 200 companies, while 8 per cent of senior executives are women and 13 per cent are board members.

The report comes as figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show that the average gender pay gap for full-time workers is now 17.2%.

Legislation due to go before parliament this year will, if passed, see the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency renamed to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency and will be awarded significant increases in power to pursue gender equality issues.
