James Strong has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Australian Institute of Company Directors following the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting held late last week.

Mr Strong, who has served on the board since being appointed as National Director last year, succeeds Richard Lee, who stepped down at the AGM following the conclusion of his three year appointment.

Mr Lee commended Mr Strong for his appointment, saying his history of leadership will see the Institute continue to promote excellence in the field of corporate governance.

“James is one of Australia’s most respected company directors, widely acknowledged for his leadership, integrity and commercial acumen,” Mr Lee said.

In accepting his appointment, Mr Strong said he was motivated by the challenge of leading the Institute in a time of change in the governance landscape.

“I’m excited about the prospect of continuing to build our reputation, our effectiveness as the voice of directors in Australia and the professional standing of our members,” Mr Strong said.

“We recognise that the community and shareholders have heightened expectations of directors and boards and I’m looking forward to leading the organisation as it helps new and experienced directors navigate the complex world of directorship, including through their own professional development.”

The AGM also saw Katherine Conlon and Peter Hay appointed as the two new Company Directors of the Institute.
