Fairfax Media’s most senior executive, Don Churchill, has announced his retirement from his position.

Mr Churchill, who was responsible for the publication of The Age, The Sunday Age and Fairfax’s 33 community newspapers and magazines, has become the latest senior executive to stand down in a spate of high profile resignations since Greg Hywood took the chief executive position in February.

Mr Churchill’s departure comes as NSW publishing boss Lloyr Whish-Wilson was replaced by Peter Fray earlier in the year. The CEO of the Financial Review Group, Michael Gill, was also stood down from his position.

Sources close to Mr Churchill said that he had retired and had not taken a redundancy package.
