The National Water Commission (NWC) has appointed James Cameron as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Cameron has acted in the role since 2009 after the retirement of Chair and CEO, Ken Mathews, in October 2010.

NWC Chair Chloe Munro congratulated Mr Cameron on his appointment, describing him as an accomplished leader of the Commission.

I look forward to continuing to work with him to advance water reform through the Commission's public assessments and transparency reports, thought leadership activities, and investments in practical tools.' Ms Munro said.

As Chief Executive Officer Mr Cameron will report directly to the Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Urban Water, and be accountable to him for the effective and efficient operation of the Commission.

Mr Cameron will have overall responsibility for the strategic direction and operations of the Commission while administering the Federal Government’s Raising National Water Standards program.

Prior to his appointment Mr Cameron held a number of senior management roles in the Australian Government's communications portfolio, including responsibility for telecommunications, broadcasting, information and communications technology and arts and sport policy.
