The Federal Government has announced two changes to the make up of the CSIRO board, including one new appointment.

Federal Minister for Science and Research, Senator Chris Evans, announced food industry expert Jane Bennett as a new board member, with Dr Eileen Doyle being appointed as the new deputy chairperson.

"Ms Bennett is the former Managing Director of Ashgrove Cheese and was awarded Tasmanian Telstra Business Woman of the Year in 2010," Senator Evans said.

"She has made a significant contribution to innovation in the agriculture industry and played an active advisory role to the community and all levels of government, serving on a large and diverse number of boards and advisory bodies."

"Ms Bennett's knowledge of the food industry and her expertise in small and medium business enterprise will complement the skills of the other board members."

Senator Evans said Dr Doyle has made a significant contribution to the Board since her appointment as a member.

"Dr Doyle has been an active member of both of the board's committees and she has gained an impressive depth of experience as a professional director," Senator Evans said.

"Her resume lists a long and successful career in large corporations over the decades but she is also known for her work with entrepreneurs and small businesses.

"I congratulate Dr Doyle and Ms Bennett on their appointments and look forward to working with them to ensure the success of Australia's science and research efforts."

Ms Bennett's appointment fills a membership vacancy on the board created by the departure of Dr Terrence Cutler. Senator Evans thanked Dr Terrence Cutler for his 10 years of service to the board.
