The Australian Financial Review has hired The Australian’s strategic business director Simon Smith, forming part of the The Australian calls an ‘audacious headhunting spree’.

Editor in chief of The Australian Chris Mitchell said: "The Australian pulls in $168 million a year in revenue and Simon Smith was responsible for $4 million of that.

"He has now gone on to a broader commercial director role at the AFR Group. Simon is a good bloke and I wish him all the luck in the world, because he will need it."
