 Northland District Health Board (DHB) is a high performing Health Service purchaser and provider operating in a complex environment within a large geographical area. Providing health services to a population of 180,000 people, our vision is “A Healthier Northland”. This can only be achieved by working in partnership under the Treaty of Waitangi, to improve population health and reduce inequities; improve patient experience; and live within our means.

 Northland DHB has nearly 2,960 staff and provides over 300 hospital beds and a broad range of health services across Northland. We also fund most of Northland’s community health services and have forged close partnerships with primary care, NGOs and Māori health providers. We are developing very strong relationships and programmes with other social sector agencies.  This newly created role is an exciting opportunity to strengthen collaboration across our hospital and community services building on the expertise, commitment and dedication of our highly talented and experienced workforce. We have an appetite for learning, research and continuous improvement with a genuine focus on staff wellbeing.

 Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will assume overall responsibility, developing highly functional relationships with General Managers and clinical leaders for the strategic and operational delivery of hospital and community services across Whangarei, Dargaville, Bay of Islands and Kaitaia. Mental Health and Addiction Services are excluded at this time.

With experience of reporting to a Chief Executive, you are able to demonstrate a track record of exceptional leadership aligning best practice innovation and solutions to tackle significant and on-going challenges in the delivery of Northland DHB services to meet the needs of Northlanders.

 The COO will also take on the role of Senior Responsible Officer for the Whangarei Hospital redevelopment with a focus on service delivery and campus redesign.

 A relevant tertiary qualification with experience in a senior general management, Chief Executive or COO role is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication with superior interpersonal, influencing and partnering skills are required.
