First Assistant Secretary Commercial

The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group is a key enabler to the Australian Defence Force through the acquisition and sustainment of military equipment and capability.

With a combined Australian Public Service and military workforce of around 5,000 people, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group manages the delivery of more than 150 complex projects and over 100 sustainment products, with an annual budget in excess of $12 billion.

The First Assistant Secretary Commercial is responsible for managing the Commercial Division, CASG and for providing strategic commercial advice to the Deputy Secretary CASG and other senior Defence managers in relation to complex contracting and procurement matters. The position is also responsible for leading an extensive program of commercial reform, including the establishment of the Defence Procurement Centre of Expertise encompassing both materiel and non-materiel procurement.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in advising on complex contracting and procurement matters, preferably with public sector (State or Federal) experience. A demonstrated track record in leadership and management at a senior level is also important.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate within the Defence SES Band 2 salary range.

Recruitment to this temporary vacancy may be negotiated for a specified term of up to 18 months. To be eligible for engagement, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the appropriate level
